Basingstoke has seen thousands of new homes built. GP services haven’t kept up.
❎My office has uncovered that, since 2018, thanks to decisions by the previous Tory Council that the NHS has been blocked from accessing at least £1.2m in developer funding to expand local GP services. For years, there was no proper route for the NHS to bid for this money, even as housing growth continued.
That’s wrong.
✅I’ve called on the council to put this right, starting by approving the £1.39m NHS bid to expand Chineham Medical Practice, and by making sure future development properly funds GP surgeries and health centres - including a long-overdue centre in Winklebury.
When new homes are built, GP services must come with them. I’ll keep pushing until they do.He called on the council to prioritise creating GPs in new developments ... See MoreSee Less

Great to be out at the weekend with Cllr Angie Freeman, Cllr Abdel Ibrahim - Brookvale and Kings Furlong and volunteers talking to neighbours around Claudius Drive.
We discussed the Manydown development, the Roman Road bus stop relocation as well as the desperate need for a new health centre in our community. If you haven't already, please sign my petition here: tinyurl.com/2p9zdebe ... See MoreSee Less

📖Reading holds the key to so much for young people - unlocking everything else school has to offer and so much of the wider world.
📚I want young people to love reading, but just one in three say they currently enjoy it, and too many children are leaving school unable to read.

Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences💬
I met with the Camrose, Gillies, Hackwood and Beggarwood Patient Participation Group to hear directly from residents about local health services and neighbourhood care 🏥
Patient group representatives told me they want care closer to home, designed around neighbourhoods and local communities and not services being centralised further away. They told me that access closer to home matters, especially for GP appointments, eye care, social care and transport 🚍
Staffing shortages, digital exclusion for some patients and the need for joined-up planning between the NHS, councils and housing developers were key themes.
I’ll be raising these issues directly with the Integrated Care Board and Ministers: including neighbourhood-based care, workforce shortages, infrastructure funding and ensuring no local services are withdrawn without being properly replaced!
You can find out more about the Patient Participation Group here: cghppg.weebly.com/cghb-patient-group.html

Really good to meet Zara , who is doing important work to challenge how baldness is represented in everyday life ✨
Zara is campaigning for better, fairer representation of bald people in media, fashion, education and public life - especially bald women and children 💛 Too often, baldness is only shown through illness, trauma, or as something negative. Zara is pushing for that to change.
Around 70% of bald women say they feel misrepresented or not represented at all in the media, and children with visible differences are far more likely to experience bullying 📊 Representation matters, and it has real consequences.
If you’d like to support Zara’s campaign, you can follow her work 👇
